Lisa Hostetler on “Shimon & Lindemann and
Photographic Portraiture.”
Friday, June 27
7pm
Lemon Lounge, 2864 N. Oakland Ave.
This month, our guest art historian is Lisa Hostetler, associate curator of photography at the Milwaukee
Art Museum. Her lecture is titled “Shimon & Lindemann and Photographic Portraiture.” Julie Lindemann and
Johnnie Shimon, who teach photography at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, have collaborated
on photography projects for many years. Hostetler has been working with Shimon and Lindemann on an
upcoming exhibition called “Unmasked and Anonymous: Shimon and Lindemann Consider Portraiture,”
running from August 14 to November 30 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The exhibition pairs portraits from the
MAM’s permanent collection with 43 works by Simon and Lindemann.
Co-hosted by Portrait Society's Debra Brehmer and Kat Murrell and Lemon's proprietor Michael Sottile,
the Lectures at Lemon Lounge series offers a pain-free way to take in a spirited discussion of historic art
while sipping a cocktail.
Lemon Lounge is the official brother bar of Portrait Society. Both establishments share a status as the
smallest of their kind in the city, measuring 300 square feet each. The bar holds a capacity crowd of
25 to 30, so come early to get a seat. The lectures are free.
